Course Description
This course is designed for anyone who wants to find out what yoga is all about. It is perfect for anyone who wants to try yoga and is still finding the courage to step into that first class. If is also ideal for anyone who has just begun taking classes but would like a better understanding on all aspects of yoga and to break down the postures a bit more. In addition to working with the postures, there will be an introduction to breathing practices and meditation as well as an introduction to yoga philosophy so you can have a full understanding of what is meant by 'yoga'. Each session will also include time for questions.
By the end of the course you will have developed the confidence to attend a group class and take the next step on your yoga journey.
The course will be limited to 10 people to allow everyone to have individual attention.
WEEK 1: Introduction to the course; Finding a sitting position; Understanding the importance of the breath; Foundations – making friends with your feet
WEEK 2: Introducing rest poses; Introduction to meditation; The importance of relaxation
WEEK 3: What are the chakras?; Hip opening, backbending and twist poses;
WEEK 4: What is the psoas muscle and why do we care about it; Postures for the health of the psoas; Working on our core; Introducing bandhas
WEEK 5: Sun Salutations; Finding your balance; Introducing Yoga Nidra
WEEK 6: Overview of the different styles of yoga; Introduction to mudras; What is an inversion? What is the significance of chanting?
